What’s new in the Mahindra 5 door Thar ?
The Mahindra 5 door Thar variant’s extra door is the only external difference between the two variants’ similar front profiles. But when you look closely, you may see certain differences. The 5-door type has LED headlamps with spherical LED DRLs that are reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, whereas the 3-door model has halogen headlamps. Furthermore, the 5-Door has LED fog lamps, whereas the 3-Door has halogen fog lamps.
Turning our attention to the side profile, the 3-Door’s convertible design makes it possible to remove the roof whenever you like. On the other hand, the 5-Door model has a fixed roof to make up for its lack of convertibility. Mahindra offers a single-pane sunroof to remedy this considering the SUV’s longer length than the 3-door variant.
Looking at the back, the two models look the same. However, the 5-Door Thar has an opening rear windscreen, which is not available on the 3-Door model. Moving inside, there are many parallels but also distinctions. The 3-Door model has an analog instrument cluster with a TFT display and a 7-inch infotainment system. The 5-Door variant, on the other hand, gets an upgraded 10.25-inch freestanding infotainment system along with a new digital cluster that might seem similar to the Scorpio-N. Minimal legroom in the 3-door model hinders the backseat experience; Mahindra has solved this issue in the 5-door model. To set it apart from the 3-Door Thar, the latter also gets a redesigned steering wheel from the XUV700.
Performance
The new Mahindra 5 door Thar will have a 2.2 L4 Cylinder Diesel Engine which generates 130 BHP and 300 NM of torque along with the 6 Speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox, and then there is the 2.0 L4 Cylinder Turbo Petrol Engine producing 128.22 BHP and 300 NM of torque for 6 Speed Manual trims, and 320 NM of torque for the 6 Speed Automatic trims. This is the same engine which is available in the 3 Door version with exception of the 1.5 L Turbo petrol engine as the Thar 5 Door is bigger in length.
Features
The 3-Door Thar comes with 7-inch Infotainment System, 18-inch Alloy Wheels, height adjustable driver seat, Manual AC, Cruise Control, Electronic Brake Locking Differential, Mechanical Locking Differential, Hill Descent Control, Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), 2 Airbags, whereas the new Mahindra 5 door Thar comes with new 10.25-inch infotainment system, 6 Airbags, Automatic Climate Control, Semi-Digital Instrument Cluster, new LED headlamps, Reverse-Parking Camera, etc. So, the new version will be loaded with some additional features.
