MS Dhoni Farewell season: Michael Vaughan compares MS Dhoni IPL 2024 season as Jurgen Klopp’s final season

The focus of attention is once again on MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League. Fans were shocked when Dhoni gave over captaincy to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad on the day of the Chennai Super Kings’ season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Due to his low batting position, the veteran has only batted twice this season despite being a regular in CSK’s playing XI. He batted for the first time in his team’s third game of the season, a 20-run loss for Delhi.

Michael Vaughan compares MS Dhoni to Jurgen Klopp’s final Liverpool season:

Michael Vaughan praised the 42-year-old and referred to Dhoni’s performance in Vizag as his “farewell tour.” The legendary English player also made a comparison between him and Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager who is leaving after this season.
“I kind of consider Jurgen Klopp from his time in the UK. With ten games remaining, the Liverpool supporters are hoping for a final opportunity to bid adieu. “Cricket fans are expressing exactly the same sentiments about MS Dhoni as CSK fans do not want him to retire after this season,” he continued. Legendary in the English club’s illustrious past, Klopp declared his intention to leave the Reds following the 2023–2024 season. On the other hand, Dhoni fueled speculation that the 2024 Indian Premier League would be his final season by stepping down as captain of CSK one day prior to their opening match against RCB. Jurgen Klopp may be assisting Liverpool in winning the UEFA Europa League and the English Premier League for the second time in club history in his final season. Even though he isn’t the captain anymore, MS Dhoni will be trying to lead CSK to their sixth IPL victory.
There are plenty of opportunities for fans in England and India to visit stadiums and catch a glimpse of Dhoni and Klopp. Anfield, the home ground of Liverpool, is more crowded than ever, and as we all know, wherever MSD goes, CSK takes up residence there.

Former Australian wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist praised MS Dhoni:

Adam Gilchrist, the renowned former Australian wicketkeeper, has called MS Dhoni the “Holy Grail” for his performance in the current IPL 2024. At forty-two years of age, Dhoni is still the most in-demand cricketer in the competition due to his enduring popularity.
Gilchrist praised Dhoni’s demeanor in interviews and press conferences, emphasizing his intriguing and secretive nature both on and off the field. The former Indian captain recently shown his batting prowess against the Delhi Capitals, scoring an astounding 37 off 16 balls. Michael Vaughan and Gilchrist talked about Dhoni’s influence on the game and how much attention he gets even when his team is losing. Vaughan likened the fervent support of Dhoni’s fans to that of a football manager, such as Jürgen Klopp, who draws large crowds to watch their idol play.

MS Dhoni’s knock in Vizag:

Dhoni devastated the Vizag fans with an unbroken innings of 37 runs off 16 balls, complete with four fours and three sixes, despite the loss. CSK’s chase of 192 runs saw them reach 171/6 in 20 overs. Then, on Friday, he batted once more against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but this time he faced just two balls and scored a single as CSK fell by six wicket.

CSK under Ruturaj’s captaincy:

SunRisers Hyderabad easily defeated the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024, handily taking six wickets in the process. This was the team’s second straight loss. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the new captain of CSK, must be feeling a little bit under pressure after two wins to start. Speaking on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy on Star Sports, Australian great Matthew Hayden stated, “There were a couple of decisions which weren’t quite sharp.” Though he ended up making a solid contribution with the ball, Moeen Ali—an all-rounder—should have been batted higher in the order. A license ought to have been granted to him. Within that power play, they were lagging.”
